Japanese scientists have for the first time in the history of science has been able to grow eggs from stem cells to fertilize them and to the birth of healthy offspring in mice, according to ITAR-TASS.
The group of experts led by Professor Mitinori Saito of Kyoto University believe that the results of their research will contribute to the solution of the problem of infertility and the study of the mechanism of the appearance of life.
At the same time the development of Japanese experts and pose serious ethical problems. The fact is that last year the group of Professor Saito was allegedly able to make sperm from induced pluripotent stem cells. The researchers are now in theory can achieve the appearance of a new life without the normal biological parents.
However, the percentage of successful fertilization of eggs produced from stem cells are still very low. The process also often show various anomalies which cause while Japanese experts can not install.
The group of Professor Saito reported that they have developed methods of growing oocytes, ovaries and sperm from stem cells now works only at the level of laboratory mice. It is not applicable to humans. But Professor Saito and his colleagues intend in the future to carry out experiments with stem cells of monkeys and man to get them out of sperm and egg.
