Why the time flying from us
The perception of time - one of the biggest mysteries of the brain. Science is beginning to slowly understand how the body performs motor tasks requiring millisecond response, and how to control the circadian rhythm, but the ability to consciously monitor the passage of time is a mystery. To begin with, we do not have the special sense organs, such as those that allow us to perceive the physical and chemical nature of the environment (touch, taste, smell). The perception of time is unusual for the fact that there is a clinical condition that can be defined as the lack of a sense of time. "We just do not have anyone to compare" - said John Uerden from Keele University (UK).Some believe that this is no accident. Warren Meck, Duke University (USA) considers that the time is so important for cognitive brain that evolution has endowed several backup systems that come into action in case of damage of the basic mechanism.About a possible biological basis for such a clock is not known. The only thing, how could think of - is the presence in the brain of a "pacemaker" and its counter signals. Like, a "device" emits regular pulses, and their brains evaluate the amount of time. Hypothesis is consistent with the observed data, but desperately incomplete: what is the "pacemaker", where it is located, how it is calculated signals? Also will have to explain why the perception of time is changing: cocaine, amphetamines, nicotine and its speed, and some antipsychotics - Slow Down. Probably the neurotransmitter dopamine is involved, people with impaired dopamine system (Parkinson's disease, schizophrenia) also perceive time properly.Time can stretch / reduce in other ways. As you know, it slows down when you're scared, and flies when you are well. The older a person is, the faster it runs for a while.Perhaps the key to this puzzle is how we think about their own perception of time. "We are in the power of the illusion that time - this is something the whole, though in reality we evaluate different aspects of time apart from each other and different control them" - says David Eagleman of Baylor College of Medicine (U.S.).Mr. Eagleman conducted the following experiment. Volunteers fell backwards with tridtsatimetrovoy tower and watched the LED display on the wrist. Some number on it blinked twenty times a second. Normally, the brain does not recognize a flash, but that in-flight people scared, and the time for it has to slow down, do not you? Alas, no one could make out the number, although on average people felt that they fell more than two and a half seconds.Cause of the "slow time", says Mr. Eagleman is probably due to the fact that in the new situation, or an important brain begins to absorb the information in more detail. Roughly speaking, time slows down, and the brain is accelerated. Scientists have found that, if a man several times to show the same image, and then display the new, he is confident that he is the new look longer than the previous one. Moreover, the brain consumes more energy, looking at the unusual image. This observation is also to some extent explains why the time of "accelerated" when we grow up. Children's brains to process huge amounts of new information about the world. With age, the new is becoming less and less. So, we can stretch your life, seeking new and exciting experiences. But where to find the time? ..
